Town Manager's NoteThis October the Woodside-area Horse Owners Association (WHOA!) will be celebrating the 20th year of the Day of the Horse. Along with May Day, this is my favorite annual celebration. For starters, the Day of the Horse celebrates all things equestrian, which I believe is the key indicator that Woodside remains a rural community. I have been with the Town for over 16 years, and I still think there’s something magical about seeing people on horseback riding along our trails. Even more than that, I love that you will see horses tied up at the hitchracks that dot the Town Center. There can be no dispute that Woodside is Horse Country. The Day of the Horse also represents the power of an idea and what committed citizens can accomplish with determination and support. It began before my time, but my predecessor received two committed local equestrians who approached her with the idea of having a fair at Town Hall to celebrate the equestrian heritage of Woodside. Without hesitation, the Town Manager told them to go for it. They did, and it has grown every year since. These days the Day of the Horse is a three-day celebration with events that take place on Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday. The Town is proud to support and provide Town Hall for the opening night reception on Friday and the Horse Fair on Sunday. I encourage you to attend one of the events and look for the riders who will be out on the progressive ride on Saturday. ~Kevin Bryant, Town Manager

September is National Preparedness MonthTalking about bad things that could happen like a disaster or emergency isn’t always easy. We may think we’re protecting the people we love by avoiding these conversations, but they are important to start taking steps to get ready and stay safe. Starting a conversation today can help you and your family to take more actions to prepare. By taking simple steps, you can build your preparedness at your own pace: - Set aside a time when everyone is calm and relaxed.
- It may help to hold the discussions over a set time period, so decisions aren’t rushed, and people feel more comfortable talking about the topic.
- Talk about steps you’ve taken to prepare and encourage others to ask questions about preparedness actions that might work for them.
One place to start the conversation is by building a kit to prepare for an emergency. After an emergency, you may need to survive on your own for several days. Being prepared means having your own food, water and other supplies to last for several days. A disaster supplies kit is a collection of basic items your household may need in the event of an emergency.

N5 Sensors Installed in Woodside!
The N5 Sensors have come to WFPD - thirteen sensors have been installed around the Fire District. N5 Sensors are state-of-the-art fire detection devices designed to provide early warnings of potential fire hazards. These sensors use advanced technology to detect smoke, heat, and other indicators of fire more accurately and quickly than traditional smoke alarms. Santa Clara County FireSafe Council, Palo Alto Fire Department and Office of Emergency Services, and WFPD, have collaborated with Stanford University, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate, and N5 Sensors to bring the latest in artificial intelligence (AI) based wildfire smoke sensing technology to wildland urban interface (WUI) areas in Palo Alto, Stanford and WFPD (the sensors will be installed in the Town of Woodside, Town of Portola Valley and the unincorporated regions of San Mateo County). As part of WFPD's commitment to community safety, we are installing 13 N5 Sensors in key locations across our district. These sensors will: - Provide Early Detection: The advanced technology in N5 Sensors allows for quicker detection of potential fires, helping to prevent the spread of fire and saving lives.
- Reduce False Alarms: N5 Sensors are designed to minimize false alarms by accurately distinguishing between real fire hazards and non-threatening situations.
- Support Community Safety: Even with only a few sensors installed, the data collected can help us understand fire risks better and enhance overall fire safety in our district.
Learn more about N5 sensors and the benefits to our community.
