Town Manager's NoteLast month, I focused my Town Manager’s note on the two incidents that happened over Labor Day weekend. The Town has been working with relevant agencies and staff to better understand these incidents and improve future outcomes. To give residents an opportunity to ask questions directly of the involved agencies, the Town will host a Town Hall Meeting at Independence Hall (2955 Woodside Road) on Wednesday, October 29. At 5:30 pm we will discuss the Four Corners Intersection at Highway 84 and Highway 35, and at 6:30 pm we will hold a Q&A with Supervisor Mueller on the SMC Alert system. I’ve included more information below and hope to see residents in person or on Zoom at the Town Hall Meeting. Highway 84 / Highway 35 Intersection - UpdateOn the evening of Friday August 29, 2025, a cyclist perished in a collision at the intersection of La Honda Road and Skyline Boulevard. The California Department of Transportation has initiated an alteration and new design for this intersection. At the Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday, October 29 at 5:30 pm the California Department of Transportation will present possible alterations to the intersection and take questions from the public. There will also be an opportunity for in-person review of design posters. I-280 / Edgewood Fire - UpdateAt approximately 4:56 pm on August 30, 2025, a car caught fire on I-280 and spread to the vegetation at I-280 and Farm Hill Boulevard. Multiple agencies were dispatched, and the progress of the fire was stopped within a few hours. Following this incident several members of the public expressed frustration with the inconsistency of the SMC Alert system and how some residents enrolled in the service received an alert while others did not. The Town worked with District 3 County Supervisor Ray Mueller and staff to host a debriefing at the Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday October 29. At 6:30 pm, there will be a Q&A with Supervisor Mueller and staff from the San Mateo County Department of Emergency Management, the Woodside Fire Protection District, and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office where the public can ask questions concerning the SMC Alert system. I hope you had a chance to attend the 21st annual Day of the Horse event that was celebrated with a trail ride through the Town of Woodside on Saturday, October 11. On Sunday October 12 the Family-Fun Horse Fair took place at Woodside Town Hall and Town staff were present to discuss the Town Center Area Plan update and take questions on general Town business. ~ Jason Ledbetter, Town Manager

Fire Prevention WeekCharge into Fire Safety: 3 Steps- Buy only listed products: When buying a product that uses a lithium-ion battery look for a safety certification mark such as UL, ETL, or CSA. This means it meets important safety standards.
- Charge devices safely: Always use the cords that came with the product to charge. Follow the instructions from the manufacturer. Buy new chargers from the manufacturer or one that the manufacturer has approved. Charge your device on a hard surface. Don’t overcharge your device. Unplug it or remove the battery when it’s fully charged.
- Recycle batteries responsibly: Don’t throw lithium-ion batteries in the trash or regular recycling bins because they could start a fire. Recycle your device or battery at a safe battery recycling location. Visit call2recycle.org to find a recycling spot near you. In Woodside, you can also place your used AA, AAA, 9-volt, and small lithium-ion batteries in a sealed and clear bag on top of your blue recycling cart on your collection day.

San Mateo County’s Emergency Management AlsoUrging Residents to Practice Lithium-Ion Battery SafetyDuring Fire Prevention WeekFires are surging — up 93 percent since 2022. Lithium-ion fires can burn at 5,000°F, can’t be extinguished with water, and generate their own oxygen, making them extremely dangerous. What you can do: - Charge only with manufacturer-approved chargers on hard surfaces (never beds or couches).
- Store e-bikes/scooters away from exits.
- Watch for warning signs: swelling (growing or appearing warped), odors, excessive heat.
