Town Manager's NoteIn the past few months, the Town has been working to increase its communication and engagement with the community. We launched a new website with enhanced notification tools for meeting agendas, special events and news items. We also launched a Citizen Request Tracker where you can easily report concerns or issues to the Town and track the progress as our staff works to address your concern. We created this monthly, electronic newsletter and plan to add Instagram in the fall. To ensure we reach less digitally connected citizens, we continue to use traditional outreach methods including postcards and the physical Woodsider newsletter, which will be mailed out in August. All of this in service of helping you, our residents, be aware of opportunities and current issues that are relevant to you. If you have a friend or neighbor who you think would enjoy receiving the e-Woodsider, they can send an email to sign up. As part of our efforts to boost communication, we will be conducting a survey to better understand how you would like to receive information from the Town and what topics most interest you. Keep an eye out for the survey launch in the Woodsider and if you have any thoughts on what we should include in the survey, let us know via email. Now that we are in the full swing of summer, we also have a lot of tips and reminders from our Agency partners on how to stay safe and thrive during this busy season. We also have an update from our Sheriff, Christina Corpus. ~Kevin Bryant, Town Manager

Dear Woodside Residents, Summer is officially here, and we know that more people will be coming to visit the beautiful Town of Woodside. As your Sheriff, I want you to know that we are committed to ensuring your safety. With more people visiting your community this time of year, we are ramping up our traffic enforcement efforts and routine patrols. Additionally, I’m providing a few updates on our community engagement and public safety initiatives since our last publication: Town Hall SuccessI’m pleased to report on the successful Town Hall meeting that took place in March. This meeting, held in partnership with the Town Mayor, Council, and residents, served as a vital forum for addressing concerns about crime. My team shared in-depth data and information on crime trends and traffic safety initiatives while also sharing the actions we are taking to address these matters of public safety. In response to some of the traffic safety concerns shared, we will be providing additional traffic enforcement coverage on the weekends beginning on the 1st of July 2024. This change is in accordance with the newly signed public safety services contract with the Sheriff’s Office and the Town of Woodside. More importantly, in collaboration with the Mayor’s direction of the Town and allocation of services we provide. Moving forward, it is my goal to make this type of community engagement a regular occurrence each fall, exemplifying why the Sheriff's Office and the Town of Woodside have such a strong and collaborative relationship. Enhanced Information Sharing and Directed EnforcementSecondly, under my direction, Captain Matthew Fox who oversees the Headquarters Patrol Bureau and the Town of Woodside, has been working diligently to bridge the gap in sharing information on crime trends within the Town. This initiative includes focused efforts on traffic safety, enforcement, and education. As a result of this proactive approach, we have successfully curbed the increase in thefts and burglaries. More importantly, we have apprehended and prosecuted multiple individuals responsible for crimes against the residents of Woodside. New Pilot Reward Program for Information on Residential Burglaries in District 3 Additionally, during the month of June, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the creation of a new reward program to address residential burglaries in San Mateo County's District 3, which encompasses the Town of Woodside. The pilot program, brought forward by Supervisor Ray Mueller, will provide rewards for up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of criminals who perpetrate these crimes. At the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, we are proud to partner with Supervisor Mueller’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office, and our various law enforcement agency partners on this initiative. We see it as another valuable tool for our deputies to obtain critical information by incentivizing people to come forward and share what they know about residential burglaries. AcknowledgementsLastly, I want to extend my gratitude to Mayor Wall and the Town Council for their ongoing support and for voicing the concerns of the community. Their collaboration with us has been invaluable in identifying issues and comprehensive solutions that benefit the community we all hold so dear. Thank you for your continued partnership and dedication to making Woodside a safer place. Warm Regards, Sheriff Christina Corpus

Grilling Safety Tips- Create a Safety Zone: Establish a 3-foot safety zone around the grill. Ensure that children, pets, and any flammable materials are kept outside this area.
- Grill Placement: Place your grill on a stable, flat surface away from your home, deck railings, and overhanging branches.
- Supervision: Never leave the grill unattended while it’s in use. Fires can spread quickly, so constant supervision is crucial.
Keep a fire extinguisher nearby and know how to use it!

Info from San Mateo County Mosquito & Vector Control DistrictProtect Yourself from Mosquitoes
As hot weather continues and you spend time outside, the San Mateo County Mosquito and Vector Control District encourages you to protect yourself and your family from mosquito bites with these simple steps: - Use insect repellent – EPA-registered repellents are safe and effective. EPA-registered repellents typically include one of the following ingredients: DEET, Picaridin, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus, IR3535, Permethrin (for pre-treating clothing). Learn more at: https://www.smcmvcd.org/epa-registered-insect-repellent
- Once a week dump items that contain water, such as tires, buckets, plant saucers, toys, kiddie pools, birdbaths, or trash containers. Mosquitoes need water to grow from egg to adult – removing water means reducing mosquito populations.
- Check and repair broken screens on windows and doors to keep mosquitoes out of your house.
- Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants, especially in the early morning, evening, and night when mosquitoes are most active.
- Report dead birds. Dead birds can be a sign of West Nile virus in the area. District staff will collect and test certain kinds of dead birds. You can report dead birds to the hotline at 1-877-WNV-BIRD or online at: https://westnile.ca.gov/report
- If you notice mosquitoes biting around your house, call the District or submit an online service request (https://www.smcmvcd.org/request-service) for a technician to investigate the problem and stop the mosquitoes. This is a no-cost service paid for by taxes. Learn more at https://www.smcmvcd.org/protect-yourself-from-mosquito-bites

Reminder from the Town's Trails Committee - It's Time to Renew or Apply for your Stable Permit
Woodside is Horse Country! While the first guiding principle of Woodside’s General Plan is to preserve, enhance, and restore the Town’s character as a rural, scenic, and historic community, the second one focuses on the recognition and support of the equine heritage, lifestyle, and equestrian facilities of the Town as a unique and defining attribute. Applying for and/or renewing a stable permit supports that effort!- WHEN? If you received the "Permit Renewal Letter," please complete the information and return it. If not, apply NOW! Do this regardless of whether your barn is currently occupied.
- WHY? Help the Town administration keep an accurate record of barns, horses, and livestock and support Woodside’s equestrian heritage and trails system.
- WHAT? Review the Private or Professional Stable Regulations and complete the application.
- HOW MUCH? Stable Permit Fee is $7, Trail Use Fee is $50 per horse using the trail (max $1,250).
- QUESTIONS? Contact Town Staff, Livestock and Equine Heritage Committee or Trails Committee.
Resources:
Stable Permit Holders play a big part in maintaining the quality, accessibility and connection that trails provide throughout the Town of Woodside.
HELP SPREAD THE WORD TO NEIGHBORS, FRIENDS, AND NEW PROPERTY OWNERS!
