Town Manager's Note

Welcome to the first edition of our new digital newsletter. You’ll notice some changes in 2024. First and foremost, I am excited that a new Town Engineer, Yaz Emrani, began work with the Town in January.  He has hit the ground running and for those of you who have had or will have a chance to interact with him, you will value his measured and professional approach.  He will be a tremendous asset to the Town. This digital newsletter is produced in conjunction with the first update to the Town’s website in six years and we’ve also transitioned our communications from “.org” to “.gov.” In the coming months we will be adding to our social media presence and implementing a new permit tracking software. 2024 is a year that will position the Town well for the future.

NEW Town Website and Transition to woodsideca.gov!

Visitors to the Town's website will not only notice a new and easier to use website, but also a more secure web address - woodsideca.gov.

Town staff, council and commission member email addresses have also moved to @woodsideca.gov email addresses. For a time, we will operate both email addresses simultaneously so that emails sent to @woodsidetown.org addresses forward to @woodsideca.gov addresses. This will provide an overlap period and the opportunity for an orderly transition so that all contacts and logins can be updated.

Switching to a .gov domain provides further assurance to the public that the information found on our website is official, trusted information.

NEW Tool - Citizen Request Tracker

Have you ever wanted to quickly report an issue – like a pothole or downed tree – but didn’t know who to contact?  With the new .gov website, the Town also launched a NEW TOOL you can use to report your concerns – the Citizen Request Tracker. With the Citizen Request Tracker, not only can you report your concerns, if you create a website account, you can also login to check on existing requests. The tool allows you to upload detailed information and photos, ensuring staff have all the information needed to respond to your request. You can report a concern via the “Submit a Request” button on the homepage or go directly to https://www.woodsideca.gov/request.

Dear Woodside Residents,

I am Sheriff Christina Corpus, and I am deeply honored and privileged to serve the Town of Woodside. My vision is rooted in a simple yet profound principle – your safety is my top priority. Acknowledging the distinctiveness of the community, I understand the importance of tailoring professional policing services to meet the specific needs and character of the Town.

Drawing upon my experience working in Woodside as a deputy and a commander, I have developed a profound appreciation for the rural landscape and the unique qualities that make Woodside a close-knit community. I firmly believe that public safety measures should seamlessly align with the character and values of our town.

My primary goal is to foster stronger connections within our community. By enhancing relationships with town leadership, residents, and businesses, we can collectively contribute to making Woodside an even safer and more cohesive place to live. I advocate for a collaborative approach to safety, recognizing that your input is invaluable as we work towards our shared goal.

Beyond the responsibilities of my role, I want you to glimpse the person behind the badge. I share a profound love for horses, and this passion is more than a hobby – it is an integral part of who I am. It reflects my commitment to understanding and embracing the diverse interests that make Woodside a vibrant community.

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Captain Matthew Fox as the designated representative to oversee operations and champion community initiatives. With a distinguished record of service, Captain Fox brings a wealth of experience and dedication to this role. Please feel free to reach out to Captain Fox for any community-related matters, concerns, or suggestions.

I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to work collaboratively with each of you in building a community that thrives on shared values and a secure, interconnected future.

Warm Regards,
Sheriff Christina Corpus

Invitation for Bids – Lighted Crosswalk at Kings Mountain Road at Woodside Road Crossing

On February 7, 2024, the Town released an invitation for bids to install a lighted crosswalk on Woodside Road at Kings Mountain Road. Bids must be submitted by 2 pm on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. More information on the project is available at https://www.woodsideca.gov/bids.aspx.

Update – Glens Path Project

The Glens Path Project will be complete by mid-April.  Final work on this important safety enhancement project is focused on Glenwood Avenue just east of Toyon Court and Hillside Drive, which has been the most challenging section for construction.  The Town recognizes it has been a long project and appreciates the patience demonstrated by residents of the Glens.  We know that when it is complete, it will be a tremendous amenity for the entire neighborhood.

Staff Spotlight - Meet Yaz Emrani, the Town’s New Director of Public Works/Town Engineer

Tell us a little about the experience you're bringing to Woodside?

I received my B.S. in Civil Engineering from Syracuse University and my M.S., also in Civil Engineering, from University of Maryland at College Park. I have worked in the private sector for a number of years, including being an entrepreneur and having my own consulting engineering firm in Southern California. I have also worked in the public sector, serving as the Public Works Director or Public Works Director/City Engineer for several municipalities. Additionally, I have taught engineering classes at UC Irvine’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Department and worked with UC Irvine’s extension program to establish a GIS Certificate program, for which I also served as an instructor. For the last 5 years, I was the Director of Public Works for the City of Glendale.

What interested you in joining the Town of Woodside?

Although I had lived in the Bay Area previously, I didn’t know anything about Woodside. When this opportunity came up, the more I learned about the town, its rich history, and the work of town administration in maintaining the infrastructure, promoting safety, and enhancing the overall quality of life for its residents, the more I became excited about Woodside and what I can bring to the table to serve this community.

What impact do you hope to have on the Town of Woodside?

My goal is to apply the combination of my experiences to help implement the Town’s vision for improving its overall infrastructure, while maintaining its rural characteristics, and providing exceptional customer service.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I also like sports, including playing tennis, and basketball, whenever I can. During the pandemic I developed an interest in 3D printing and now design and print my own creations.

A BIG Thank You to our Public Works’ Crew!

We wanted to acknowledge the hard work of our Public Works’ Crew in preparing for the recent storms. They have been working diligently to ensure the town is in the best shape to weather these storms, including coming in on a Sunday to be ready for the next onslaught of weather. Visit the Town’s website to see how you can help with storms by maintaining the watercourse on your property: https://www.woodsideca.gov/236/Winter-Storm-Watercourse-Protection
